Business Continuity and Emergency Management

Recent floods and bushfires interstate and here in NSW has highlighted the need for service providers to review their business continuity ad emergency management plans.  Ask yourself the question of what would you do if basic services such as electricity, water or IT failed?  How do you manage if staff can not get to work after a storm either due to road blockages or closure of schools etc.?  How do your clients manage in extreme heat?  The Victorian Departments of Health and Human Services have developed some reference material to assist the Health and Community Services Sector which is useful to check when you are reviewing your business continuity and Emergency Management Plans.  They include 'On-site emergency response planning', 'Bushfire response: Clients and services Policy 2009-10 Overview', and 'Getting Started ... questions to consider when revising or developing your plans.'  There is also information on bushfires for people with disabilities and heat stress.
